RecycleBank pays you to recycle
Here's one of the many cool ideas I heard about at the Net Impact conference: RecycleBank, a group that sets up easy recycling in your city, pays you by the pound for your household recyclables, and makes its own money taking a cut of the municipal savings in landfill costs. It's a little more complicated than that, but rather than having me explain it, check out this great YouTube video.
This is un-believable...the Recyclebank employees have been submitting BLOGS as a disguised as a 3rd party to make their company sound newsworthy...they have a limited customer base with only two cities attempting a small trial area. There process costs a city to much money for it to make sense for the city to jump on board with them.

Just to be clear, I have no affiliation with RecycleBank other than the fact that I heard them mentioned in a presentation at a conference. Sometimes a groups or cause will send me emails hoping I'll blog about them, but in this case RecycleBank has not contaced me. I'm really not sure what Jack has against them, though his email address (not visible publicly) has the word "trashman" in it, so perhaps he is worried about his job/industry?
