Re-thinking our ethos = "Rethos"
About a year ago, I attended the launch party for GOOD Magazine in NYC, and fortuitously shared a taxi with a random stranger who turned out to be Alex Salzman, founder of Rethos.com.
Rethos derives its name from the idea of changing our culture (our ethos) to one that is more socially and environmentally sustainable. The site is one of several new social-networking platforms for young people interested in social and environmental action. Among its peers, Rethos has taken a long time to roll out a beta version - but the site looks fantastic, so it may have been time well spent. Even the could-be-cheezy setting of the "manifesto" to music is quite well done.
Meanwhile, Starting Bloc's portal, 1bloc.com, launched quickly with many software bugs, only to close down for several months while it changed its name and legal status (it is now JustMeans.com). So at this point, Rethos isn't that far behind after all. The only problem: Rethos must be more popular than predicted, because it has loading more slowly today than yesterday.
So, quick - sign up! Before all the good log-in names are taken. ;)
A correction, courtesy of Martin Smith, who founded Starting Bloc a few years ago and is currently leading up JustMeans. He clarified that 1bloc.com was its own platform (now defunct), and has no connection to JustMeans - other than the shared founder, of course.
